Grading

Grades are based on daily rehearsal attendance and participation,

tests, quizzes and

rehearsal and performance attendance and participation.

Daily Participation Grade

Students will be assessed daily on rehearsal participation, posture, promptness, self-discipline, responsibility, ability to listen and follow director’s suggestions, good attitude and willingness to work hard.

The ability to listen is the single most important skill to develop in order to be a good choir member. Developing the self-discipline and the ability to know when to speak and when to listen will be an important part of the student grade. Also, the ability to focus on the director and the music and to maintain a cooperative attitude will be an important part of the daily participation grade.

Participation in the daily warm-up exercises will be graded every day. It is important to arrive to class on time and to begin each warm-up exercise on time. Tardiness will affect the grade.

Students will be expected to be responsible for all personal materials and music needed for daily rehearsals. All materials should be returned to the proper places at the end of every rehearsal.

A good attitude is a must! Negative comments will not be acceptable. Students will be expected to work hard and strive for musical excellence at all times.

Performances/Rehearsals

This is a performance class. Students will be expected to attend ALL performances and rehearsals. There will be many dress rehearsals and performances throughout the year. Dates will be posted well in advance. If there is a major conflict, the director MUST be notified in advance. All situations will be handled on an individual basis.
Students will be expected to remain for the duration of the entire rehearsal or performance in order to be awarded full credit.

It will be the responsibility of the student to notify the director in advance of any conflicts.

We Are The "Seaside Singers"

We are the "Seaside Singers" at First Flight High School in

Kill Devil Hills, NC. We offer two singing groups in our Fine Arts Department - Glee Choir for grades 9-12 and an Concert Choir (audition only) for grades 9-12. This year our classes meet 60 minutes every day and classes run all year. Our chorus director is Cezette Barnes and our accompanist is Steve Blackstock.

CONCERT CHOIR
We enjoy performing at school, in the community and when we travel. Our favorite place to perform at FFHS is in the center of the rotunda. The acoustics are excellent. We stand in a large circle around the compass rose and face each other. It is an amazing sound! Last year we performed on the steps of the Capitol in Washginton, D.C. and at the National Cathedral. We performed at Ground Zero in New York in 2007 and plan to return in the spring of 2012. New York, here we come!

Our first community concert is scheduled for Sunday, October 23 @ Duck United Methodist Church @ 4 PM. The choir and the orchestra will perform separately and then combine for final selections. Many styles of music will be included in the program.

We are looking forward to our next Choral Festival, scheduled for the middle of February. Our guest choristers will be visiting from Connecticut and will touring the east coast. The choir of 30 members visit every other year and our combined high school choirs enjoy socializing with workshops, game activities, dinners, rehearsals and our final concert.

This year the Concert Choir will be performing in our black robes with the new stoles bearing our FFHS colors of white and blue.

GLEE CHOIR

The Glee Choir will wear informal beach concert attire -black chorus t-shirts, jeans and tennis shoes. This year several of our dance students will choreograph songs. Last year we choreographed a song from "Annie" that was so much fun. We also plan to work on many pop songs, including "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. We have a good year planned for everyone.

FINE ARTS BOOSTERS
Our Fine Arts Boosters president is Brittany Phillips. She has some good ideas about fund-raising. Please plan to join our Fine Arts Boosters and get on board to help earn your money for trips, t-shirts, robes, and other expenses. The Fine Arts Boosters meet the second Tuesday of every month at 6:00 PM in the Band Room. There is no membership fee. Please join us!

If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Barnes @ FFHS. The number is 252-449-7000 x2420. Mrs. Barnes will be glad to answer any questions about the program.

Please join us for our next FAB meeting and give us the opportunity to meet you and welcome you into our fabulous Fine Arts Family!
